Three Friends on Horseback

Large View

Three Friends on Horseback
  • Three Friends on Horseback. My Grandmother, Mattie Louise Cassels, is on the left.
It was probably taken near Holcomb around 1905.

NOTE: I sent this photo to a coupla other Holconb persons interested in the history of the area---We all believe this would have been taken somewhere crossing the Taylor Slough.

The Taylor Slough is actually what caused Holcomb to be an island -on the west side of Holcomb was the St Francis low lands (parts were I'm sure called by various names and starting north of Holcomb and turning south (roughly as # 19 ditch does presently) and traveling south. Example: If one would have gone to or from Marlow (where the Hogues originally settled =per my understanding) from Holcomb it would have been necessary to cross the Taylor slough.
