  • I went to England in 1975 with my friend, Sherry Johnson from St. Louis. We went all over London. One day we met these gentlemen - who were from Lapland! The one sitting by me couldn't speak English. We had a great time in England then I went to Scotland all by myself. I spent a week in a town called Troon in western Scotland. It is on the Firth of Clyde. I visited Culzean Castle. It was January and the people who owned the bed and breakfast, where I stayed in Troon, went with me to the Castle. The blacksmith, who was there by himself, took us on a private tour of the Castle which included a visit to the Eisenhower Apartment. The people of Scotland thought VERY highly of our General Eisenhower. They gave him and his family the use of this apartment, which is a the top of the Castle, for life.
